Yuka Saso became the first Filipino player to win

Yuka Saso became the first Filipino player to win a major with victory in the US Women's Open at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.

Despite a shaky start, Saso, beat Japan's Nasa Hataoka on the third hole of a sudden death play-off after they tied at four under par.

Lexi Thompson, who had led at the halfway point, missed some crucial shots in the latter holes allowing Saso to take victory. Mel Reid, who had led after the first round, finished tied 46th.

At just 19 years, 11 months and 17 days, Saso matched South Korea's Inbee Park (to the day) as the youngest champion at this major.

In 30 years' time, climate change may be making such an impact on sustainable water supplies, that lush wide-open fairways are a thing of the past.

Urban golf, which has been compared to "parkour with a golf ball" is set to rise to prominence in this future as golf adapts to a changing environmental landscape. Unpredictable weather will make it harder to manage and maintain courses.

Many golf courses may struggle financially as the playing time available to recreational players reduces. Greens may be turned into fields to make way for growing food.

Rising water levels may threaten many of the finest world courses, including Montrose Golf Links in Scotland that already loses 1.5 metres every year.

Some courses are looking to grow warm-season grasses on their fairways, which is more tolerant of hot weather and reduces water consumption. Radical solutions include cutting the number of holes from eighteen to nine.
